Everyone makes these mistakes at first. The faster you fix them, the faster you actually enjoy jumping.
Mistake #1: Arms Too Wide
Elbows flying out like chicken wings. The rope gets too short, clips your feet constantly.
Fix: Keep elbows tucked close to your ribs. Hands at hip height, slightly forward.
Mistake #2: Jumping Too High
We covered this - but it's worth repeating because everyone does it. You only need 2-3cm clearance.
Fix: Listen for quiet landings. If you're slapping the floor, you're jumping too high.
Mistake #3: Looking Down
Staring at the rope or your feet. Messes up your posture and timing.
Fix: Eyes forward, chin neutral. Trust the rope. It'll come around.
Mistake #4: Double Bouncing
Doing a tiny hop between each rope pass. Wastes energy and breaks your rhythm.
Fix: One jump per rotation. If you can't yet, slow down the rope until you can.
Mistake #5: Going Too Fast Too Soon
Trying to look like a boxer on day one. Speed causes sloppy form.
Fix: Slow is smooth. Smooth becomes fast. Master the basics at half-speed first.
The Real Secret
Every good jumper was once terrible. The difference is they kept showing up. Five minutes a day beats one hour once a week.
Coach Joaquín's truth: "Mistakes are just lessons you haven't learned yet."
Fix these five mistakes and jumping stops being frustrating. It becomes fun. That's when progress really starts.
